چکیده
Objective: to identify the association of hyperoxia at time Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission with clinical outcomes in adult patients on invasive mechanical ventilation and respiratory dysfunction defined by a PaO2/FIO2 ratio (P/F) below 300. Methods: retrospective cohort observational study data from admitted general ICU, 8 beds university hospital. Hyperoxia was as PaO2 > 120mmHg were classified 4 subgroups: 1.hyperoxia P/F 300, 2. ? 3.no 4. no Results: total 129 included. present one third (43, 33.3%) all patients. It more frequent without (P/F 30 54 individuals 55.6%) comparison those 13 88, 14.7%), p=0,044. The ICU mortality not different among subgroups; however, length stay greater subgroup < Conclusion: admission, mechanically ventilated associated worse ratio.

Respiratory mechanics in mechanically ventilated patients.
Respiratory mechanics refers to the expression of lung function through measures of pressure and flow. From these measurements, a variety of derived indices can be determined, such as volume, compliance, resistance, and work of breathing. Plateau pressure is a measure of end-inspiratory distending pressure. It has become increasingly appreciated that end-inspiratory transpulmonary pressure (str...
متن کاملEmergency department hyperoxia is associated with increased mortality in mechanically ventilated patients: a cohort study
BACKGROUND Providing supplemental oxygen is fundamental in the management of mechanically ventilated patients. Increasing amounts of data show worse clinical outcomes associated with hyperoxia. However, these previous data in the critically ill have not focused on outcomes associated with brief hyperoxia exposure immediately after endotracheal intubation. Therefore, the objectives of this study...
متن کاملLack of influence of gender on outcomes of mechanically ventilated medical ICU patients.
STUDY OBJECTIVES Recent studies combining medical and surgical patients have suggested that mortality is higher for mechanically ventilated women than for men. This study was designed to determine whether there are gender-based differences in outcomes in mechanically ventilated medical ICU (MICU) patients. DESIGN AND SETTING Prospective observational study in an MICU of a tertiary-care academ...
متن کاملCorrelation of early over-sedation with clinical outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients: further studies are needed
In a previous issue of Critical Care we read with great interest the article by Tanaka and colleagues [1] who studied the relationship between early deep sedation and clinical outcomes of mechanically ventilated patients in Brazilian ICUs. Accordingly, early deep sedation (defined as a Glasgow Coma Scale score of less than 9 with sedatives on the second day of mechanical ventilation) is a commo...

OBJECTIVE To determine the costs associated with delirium in mechanically ventilated medical intensive care unit patients. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING A tertiary care academic hospital. PATIENTS Patients were 275 consecutive mechanically ventilated medical intensive care unit patients. INTERVENTIONS We prospectively examined patients for delirium using the Confusion Assessm...
